That said anyone should determine for themself what is the most wise thing to do, and not going to blindly follow the yelling guru that they should migrate (though Microsoft would love to see this). There is much to lose if you make the wrong decision.

Walter;
Without question business opportunities and the economy will dictate the job market. This varies everywhere and is even different as you leave Silicon Valley. Many of us have complained about Microsoft bringing out new tools during the last 12 years for example. One argument is that not all customers will immediately throw away all PC software applications to embrace the latest greatest offering from Microsoft.
Being aware of and able to use new technology as it applies to yourself can be very important. It may be 1 ½ years before .NET is a solid and stable product. Some people think Beta 2 was the “end all” and have created “applications” using it. It is too early to fully understand where and how .NET will be placed.
An ideal position is one where you have a corporate developer whose employer pays for the employee’s education to learn new technologies. Not everyone has that opportunity. It is interesting to have the perspective of another developer be it from another company or country. There is no one answer to anything – just like programming. Although I have met people that only allow one way to think! :)
