True, lack of comment coloriing between lines can be very confusing.

Beginning a comment with "*" is fine. Ending it with ";", however, will cause that comment line to absorb the line following it. One solution is to make sure that there's a blank line or a line with nothing but "*" on it between commented-out code and live code.
