First engineering college and then to get additional degrees in History and Political Science. I do not recommend this to anyone.

I worked my way through college too. For the first two years I was the 'curculation manager' for the local paper (read: nurse maided delivery boys). For 37.5 hours per week my 3rd and 4th year I worked as an analytical chemist for Bradford Labs (Calgon Corp). I was fortunate for those years at Bradford because I could schedule my work around my classes. I always took a full load, 12 hours, and went to summer school to take the fluff classes -- they were always busy work and re-writing what thousands have already written before. In graduate school I got paid to do research 20 hrs per week, but it was research on my thesis.
In fact, I a recall mentioning before, I got paid $2K/yr less at my first teaching job as an assoc. Prof of Nat Sci.

I could always tell which students were going to work for daddy when they graduated... they partied all the time, spent a lot of money, and drove the newest and/or most expensive cars in the University parking lot. I know of several who ended up driving the business their folks had built up and left to them right into the ground. Hard lessons learned too late.
