You might try adding the line:
SET DISPLAY TO VGA25
to your app - I know that some versions FPDOS of WinXP will query the capabilities of XP's video driver and will start in 80x50 line mode rather than 80x25 mode as expected. Adding this line will force them to run in 80x25 mode.
