Have you try to put a ' (apos) before the number?
ie: '1234

This is the way to keep numbers in char format
when directly working in Excel.

I am not sure if it work the same in automation...
If we exchange an apple, we both get an apple.
But if we exchange an idea, we both get 2 ideas, cool...
