Thanks chaps,

I do have Office installed, but it is XP Pro and according to the MS knowledge base articles fast find is not installed when Office XP sits on top of Windows 2000, as it uses the Windows 2000 indexing service. I checked the services panel and found that the Indexing service was indeed running. Disabling this still made no differences.

Also I found a registery key from a related MS Office knowledge base document which I tried as well, just in case:-

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Find Fast

DWord Value = SlowDown
Data Value = 10000

This is supposed to lengthen the time before fast find kicks in if it's running to ten times it's default of 1000. I realise MS say XP Pro when it's on Win 2000 doesn't use it, but I thought I'd try anyway. Again it made no differnce.

Am I missing something here? Is there some other setting I should be making?

Many Thanks
