Does anyone have experience with interfacing to a IBM mainframe that has VSAM file structures?

We are looking to buy a DDM(Distrubuted Data Management) software that works on the mainframe to replicate or translate the VSAM files to SQL Server. We have been reading about ways to access VSAM files from a PC via VFP but would like to know if anyone here has any experience or advise as to where to look for more information.

Our objective is to read and write to the mainframe's VSAM files real time, from a PC app. Sounds like a DDM software will allow us to do this but we haven't found anyone else that has done this.
