Hello Matthew,
Welcome to the UT...
The books at
www.hentzenwerke.com, as Sergey has suggested, are well worth the money. The
Hackers Guide,
1001 Things You Wanted to Know, and
Essentials are all very good. Theoretically, the
Fundamentals book is the place to start, but I skipped over it.
Now, on your current situation, you have already seen by the suggestions there is more than one way to skin the fox. I like using a cursor for reports, using the SQL-Select command. For individual work orders, you can JOIN the detail (line items) table with the header table, and print the header information at the top of each page. Your cursor will have the header information repeated on each row (record), but it will work great!
HTH,
steve
>Thanks to you and all who have replied. What I see I need now is a suggestion for the best text on learning the launguage. My backgound is some VB, but otherwise I work in Perl/MySQL on *nix platforms.
