Hello,

I am having trouble configuring a linked server from one SQL Server 2000 box to another SQL Server Box over the Public Internet.

I have a previously configured quite a few different linked servers from the same SQL Server 2000 box to Oracle 8i, SQL Server 7, and an Access 2000 databases.

- The error message I get is "Server does not exist or Access Denied"
- We have a T1 going out to the internet
- The system I am trying to connect to is a Dell Host dedicated server which I have full control and access to.
- I can connect to the Dell Host box using an odbc dsn
- I can connect using query analyzer and the ip address
- I can connect via Enterprise Manager and ip address
- I am using an account that has dbowner role to the database
- I am using OLE DB Provider for SQL Server.

In creating my other linked servers I wrote scripts so that I would be able to repeat the process in the future .... hah! So much for forethought :)
I have tried all kinds of combinations using enterprise manager ... nothing.

I am thinking that the issue is with one or more of the properties of the linked server. They are;

Product name - I'm using the IP Address
Data Source - I'm using the IP
Provider String - I'm leaving this blank
Catalog - I'm using the database name

Can anyone suggest what else I might be missing or should look at?

Thanks,
-Isaac
