Just curious why you can not customize working with column properties and column.control lostfocus event?
You can create a grid with definite number of columns and assign properties for each column as needed. To force cursor go in the direction you need, you could use something like keyboard "{leftarrow}" or keyboard "{dnarrow}" in the lostfocus method.
