It's not only attachments from people you don't know - quite a few mail from infected people & the message carries the name of someone you know.

Unfortunately, that was how I was caught out. A bit of bad luck in that I had e-mailed a trusted friend asking for a reply on the day that he got infected, I got what I though was the reply (it didn't register that the subject didn't relate to the original mailing), I saw his name opened the e-mail, which was blank & opened the attachment without thinking.

Fortunately I realised what had happened & it took about 20 minutes to clear + a bit longer to apologise to the peope in my address book.

I had been very careful prior to that & thought I could get away without AntiVirus s/w. I installed some the same day.
