I'm looking for a suite of reporting tools that
has the following characteristics:
1. A server-side piece that is responsible for pulling data from
heterogeneous data sources, performing calculations on the results, and
sending the final result set back to the client. Needs to be able to run on
both Windows and Unix platforms.
2. A client-side report designer that can produce reports in, minimally,
Excel-compatible and HTML formats. (The more formats, the better.) Also
needs to be able to run on both Unix and Windows.
3. Some sort of Web-based system that end-users can use to run the reports
created by #2. Ability to create ad hoc reports using this system would be
a plus.
4. A security mechanism that keeps track of which users have access to which
reports


We currently have a product called Sagent that does this for us, but the
client side only runs on Windows. My boss wants something that's a bit more
platform-independent. In your travels, have you heard of or used anything
like what I've described? I've been trying to research this on the web, and
so far I've found only 1 potential product. Can anyone point me to a product or company?
