I will explain how it works in Visual Extend (the framework I use): the user can go to a column (example: Name), and type "B". This will automatically sort on this column. It will also locate the first name that starts with "B". If the user types a second letter within two seconds, e.g. "E", the first name that starts with "BE" will be located.
