The code I gave you just shows the level of handling that may be required depending on your application. It in no way alters the .input of the control. Your previous observation of the toggling of the CTS line by the scanner makes me question its setup. Check that your control and the scanner agree on the method of handshaking. If timing was an issue, I would expect incomplete data versus none at all.
