Thanks for your reply, but no go here with suggestions. Wondering if my question was not clear or maybe I just don't get it.

Let me elaborate:

I'm don't want to convert numeric data to characters data. I know how to do that and it works fine on other fields not included in my example. The need is to just get VFP numeric data into SQL Server as numeric or Smallint data. Hence I don't see how transofrm, trim, etc. applies

1. The source field (LIC_NUMBR) is in a VFP free table and is numeric width 3 no decimals that has been stored in a memory variable mLIC_NUMBR

2. The target field (also LIC_NUMBR) in SQL Server 2000 as is a Smallint field.
