Does this mean that you couldn't use the screen saver as an indicator? What I'm thinking is a timer that checks whether or not it's running via the SystemParametersInfo API call with SPI_GETSCREENSAVERRUNNING as the desired information. What you could do is check that, and if it was, shut the application.
