>Thank you. But I need the RowSourceType to be NONE since I am adding items to the listbox with addlistItem - because I need each row to have a unique itemId inorder to access which row im dealing with. Is there any way to change the color when the rowsourcetype is set to None?

No, you cannot, but there are other alternatives. You could use a grid which will look like a listbox and change the colors there with DynamicBackColor property, use bbLIstView ActiveX control (file#
9468 in Downloads section) or TreeView ActiveX control.
