>How about Moulin Rouge!?
I've become so disappointed with american filmmakers in general - they waste such a wonderful venue to teach, uplift, inform, and amuse - that I often stop the video a third of the way thru because the vapidness is depressing. But then I put Moulin Rouge into the vcr. I don't remember being so charmed, so immersed, or so transported as I was watching Moulin Rouge than any other film in the last 5 years. I am only sorry that I didn't take my friend's advice when it first came out to see it on the big screen.
And Ewen MacGregor was perfect for the role - did you see his breakthru role in the Brit TV production of "Lipstick On Your Collar"?
