Sorry. I thought your question was if the recordcount property was supported, in which case you would use objRS.Supports(adBookMark)

If you are worried about whether ADO is installed or not just wrap your Createobject in an error handler. I guess MDAC is installed with IE. For the truely paranoid, include a reference to ADO when you are generating your SETUP.EXE.
