The problem is only on windows98 machines and it seems to depend on the mdac driver version :
2.5 : 9 on 10 times timeout on connect (from VFP using sqlstringconnect)
if i make a dsn 1° with named pipes : time out
2° with tcp/ip err message.
2.6 : nothing... (from VFP using sqlstringconnect)

On the server side, MSDE on windows 2000 pro we didn't had the problem. When we went to windows 2000 server/SQL2000 the probs started.
