I'm slowly moving over from Access abck ends to SQL and had a question for opinions about data types. SQL Server 7.0 default to a char datatype when adding a new field. After doing some raeding though it looks to me like varchar is the better choice for efficency as it does not pad the extra charcaters like char does. If this is the case can someone tell me why char is the default? What do y'all like to use a preference for basic text?
