Hi Nick,
I used to be of the same mind. More recently I changed my mind because that similar stance has been/is taken far too often today.
If we "solved" every problem by doing away with 'thing' itself rather than resolving the problem, pretty soon we'll have very little left.
Right now this "solution" is proposed for the more optional or diversionary things of life, and some things that involve governmental responsibilities.
Did they, way back when, get rid of banks because there were robberies?... or cars because of accidents?... or planes because they crash?... or... the list goes on and on.
Things have turned far differently in more recent times, and it is getting worse. There are examples all around us. The boss who sends out a memo 'reminding' people of a certain policy because that's easier than confronting the offender(s). The neighbour calling the cops because my cat craps in their flower-bed, because they can't talk to me about it directly. The near-deaf lady who files a human rights action because the table next to hers at the restaurant wouldn't quieten down after she asked the manager to have them do so. Teachers can't touch their charges in any way any more... and on and on.
We've got to get back to solving the problem.
