I assume it is the "select code page" dialog that bothers you.
set cpdialog off
You can also mark individual tables with codepages; in this case, you won't see the dialog again (for that table). That is convenient to translate characters correctly from FoxPro/DOS tables (this includes files exported from Excel, or many other software packages).
