>What if one offender exposed a whole other issue that needed to be addressed and resolved at a broader level, which should have been done in the first place? Where you may think the broad issue is corruption in judges of subjective competitions, but I'd like to suggest that its the existence of the subjective competitions in the games. It simply does not belong. Feel free to prove me wrong.

Mike,

You know that my raising these other issues is to support the argument to fix the problem rather than do away with "judged" competitions. Sure there are times where a boss' memo about policy is appropriate. Just that, more often than not, it isn't, but rather the easy way out.

In a time not so long ago there was far far far far far far far (get the point?) less corruption and lying and cheating going on in this world of ours. We didn't seem to hear of too many problems back then.
People could get on planes without FBI clearance, Presidents and Prime Ministers could walk our streets unescorted, people could leave their car (and house) doors unlocked, kids could play outside, etc.

Here we have (reportedly) a single French judge who was influenced by a somewhat larger group of outsiders (French, Russian and maybe Italian delegates) at the games to fix an outcome.
For the sake of one bad judge you want to throw out the whole sport???? And, in addition, tar all other judged sports with the same brush?????

I can show you a bad VFP programmer. Does that make us all bad????

The only reasonable solution here is to FIX THE PROBLEM, not kill judged sports. Killing them all makes a little evil win over a ton of good hard working ethical people.

I realize that talk like this is a losing proposition in a programming crowd. The vocal "surrogate keys EVERYWHERE" crowd always drowns out any alternate voice on that issue because the easy way out is considered to be the best way out just because it is "easy" (to conceptualize). In a similar vein, this crowd, by and large, will likely opt for the get rid of judged sports because it is easiest.

Cheers
PS Not at all trying to prove right/wrong, but rather an alternate point of view.
