The option is useful, most of the time. Some TLAs (three-letter acronyms) and EFLAs (extended four-letter acronyms) I would have trouble guessing without it.
I also set "Autolinks" on. This, too, produces some unexepected side-effects - like creating a link every time somebody uses words like "book", "link", etc. - the links are out of context in some cases.
