Are you using the Graphical style of check box? If not, you can control the .BackColor and .ForeColor based on .Value

If using Graphical style, all you can control is the caption color (.ForeColor) but the button is either depressed (down) or up depending on .Value. I have used this style and changed the .ForeColor to red when down andblack when up, and changed the .Caption to reflect what has been done. This produces a very dramatic effect.
