Thank you everyone, for all your replies. I am an ISD and would be completely lost without the UT and the grassroots level of assistance provided.

I completely agree with what Agnes said about the need for a FAQ fully explaining the benefits and limits of ISh for VFP. Over the next few months I am sure this issue will surface again and again.

For now, I have tested and found the upgrade situation as follows –

1. If upgrading from a ‘Setup’ install (say VFP5) which is not in the Control Panel Add/Remove programs, the user has to install using Ish, then uninstall and re-install.

2. If upgrading from a previous ISh install, advise the user to go to the Control Panel and Remove the old version before installing. To prevent the user ignoring this, it is best to change the ‘Upgrade’ code in ISh. This will pop up a message advising the user to perform the uninstall first and prevent the upgrade.

If both Product and Upgrade codes are changed, the Control Panel Add/Remove dialogue with show both old and new versions.

This will suit me for the time being but I will need to quickly go to MSI.
