>>>However, if they drop off the French judge's scores, that does make it a tie, does it not? And ties are allowed...

>>Yes, but that hardly makes it fair. What if they dropped the French judges scores for every pair? And why not the Russian judge? If it turns out they wheeled and dealed together, don't you think the Russian judge's scores will be less than objective? Also, when a tie is made for first, don't both the competitors get the silver? Thats what I heard, not sure though. If thats the case, it would only be fair to take away the gold medals and give out two silvers.

>If you drop the French and Russian judges scores, the Canadians win and who knows where the Russians finish. If there is a tie for first, 2 golds are given, no silver and one bronze. If there is a tie for second, then 2 silvers are awarded and no bronze.

I heard yesterday from the Dutch commentator (she was a former Olympic Figure Skater) that the (North-)American Media only showed the error that the Russians made and didn't show the Error the Canadians made at the end of the Short Program. Normally they should have ended 4th during that event because of the error. Because they were the World Champions they received better marks and came in 2nd.

They were the Best in the second event and it would compile to these scores:
(Short program gives half ranking points)
Rus1: 0.5 + 2 = 2.5
Can : 2.0 + 1 = 3.0
Chn : 1.0 + 3 = 4.0
Rus2: 1.5 + 4 = 5.5
I really don't care who wins the Gold but I think it is bad that the Media can display a one-sided view which makes a difference at the end.

I think that a lot of the Jury scores in Figure Skating are based on Merits not on the actual performance at that time.
If you look at the scores of the 2 Compulsory Dances of the Skatedancing event, you will see that only rank 11 and 12 are switched (out of 24 pairs)
I leave the conclusions up to you.
