You won't be able to take a 6.5 backup and restore it to a 7.0 table. Take a look at the Upgrade Wizard that ships with 7.0 and 2000.

From personal experience, you'll have the best luck if the two servers are in the same domain with the two SQL Server services using the same domain login. Also, run the wizard using the same domain login.
