>At my day job, we have decided to start selling an application that I built. To give ourselves a legal leg to stand on if someone copys our app, how do we (in Canada) obtain copyright over the application? I've heard that some copyright is automatic.

I have copyrights on a couple of small apps I've done in both the US and Canada. I have lawyers on both sides of the border that I pay to deal with things like this but this is my understanding of the process. Again, contact a lawyer to be safe.
We filed for copyrights on both sides of the border at the Federal level. In the header lines of each program, method, event, function and procedure contain the following information:
All Rights Reserved, Copyright © 2002 for Heights Consultants.
If I modify the code in a year other than the one stated in the copyright line, I add a comma and current year. 2001, 2002.
All of my controls have a cCopyRight property with the value set to [All Rights Reserved, Copyright © 2002 for Heights Consultants. ]
