Yes I think this is my only solution, the only problem come sin when editing or adding a new records, this might slow down the process. However, the questions realy is will it be slower than filtering, I don't think so. I was possibly looking a a filtered VIEW witha requery() when an edit was done. but then once again the filtering might be a whole lot slower.
