I think it means just that: that you have an invalid association (bg).

The program should open the document with the very same program that would open it when you double-click on the document from Windows Explorer.

Perhaps you don't have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed, or that the associations are damaged. This means that Windows "forgot" that PDF files are supposed to be opened with Adobe Acrobat Reader.

What happens if you double-click on a PDF-file in Windows Explorer?
