As I understand the complaint, he would like for VFP's SQL - Select to adopt "good programming parctice" too! Since IT opens the tables, IT should close them.
I can't blame someone for not knowing that the tables are opened again by SQL Select. And I certainly can't blame them for expecting them to be closed by whatever opens them.
This is one of the many things that make true 'expertise' in VFP more difficult than it has to be.
