What's the OS on that new Dell machine? I thought you'd said NT earlier. I'm not sure what difference that would make but maybe it does.
FWIW I installed it on a two-year old Dell 550MHz 128MB RAM running Win98SE. On this machine, the MSDN comes up in under ten seconds, about half of which is waiting for the DVD drive to spin up. Once up, navigation is pretty quick. Again, on this machine I did a Typical install, not a Full install as you did.
It doesn't make any sense that a faster machine like yours should have these problems. Surely lots of people have installed this by now, so hopefully someone else will jump in here if they've had an experience similar to yours.

>Yesterday I teleworked, so it had about 36 hours or for installation. It had completed when I returned. However, it does not run. I took a look at the Start Menu/All Users link, and it's trying to run something called "dexplore.exe." Note that this is on a 1.2 Ghz Dell with 256 RAM, 20 GBs, no slouch. Very fresh with not much installed, too.

The caption is Microsoft Document Explorer, but the two frames are still empty after another 5 minutes. There are tabs at the bottom for Contents, Index, Search...I put a word in on Search - and after a few more minutes, uh-oh, now it says "The operation could not be completed."
