I have code that Ed Rauh posted a while back that I use to map a drive letter to the share when I'm getting files. I try to assign drive letter "R:" to the share and if I get an error that the drive letter is already used, I start over from "E:" and got to "Z:" before I decide that there are no drive letters available. But that is much slower and doesn't seem appropriate to validate what a user typed.
