My father and I are planning to use a timeshare exchange in Europe. RCI is offering us the two weeks of October 13 - 27 at Club la Costa at Marina del Sol in Malaga, Spain. We are trying to decide whether to accept the offer or ask for something else. We don't know what else is available this fall, but there is nothing else in Spain and nothing at all in France with two bedrooms. Since we are trading a two bedroom unit, we are insisting on one in exchange.

We are not primarily interested in the resort for its own facilities. We would use it as a base for exploring the city and the region. We are willing to tour by train or rented car, depending on whichever is convenient.

I have heard Malaga described as a very congested and unappealing city. If I was going to spend two weeks there, I would hope that Malaga had a lot to offer, and that it would be feasible to make day trips to nearby cities and towns. The resort would need to be convenient to a train or bus station if we were touring that way. If we were driving, we would need to be able to get out of the city without too much trouble.

We have a broad interest in history, art, architecture, and so forth. We aren't so interested in techno clubs and fish and chips. In America I don't usually go to places like Daytona Beach, and in Europe I wouldn't tend to visit places like Benidorm.

I do want to go to Spain sometime. But I don't know if this is the way. I can imagine it offering the best or the worst of Spanish tourism. The timeshare weeks don't expire for another year. What do people think?
