>>Do your homework! Try google.com and look up Malaga. It can be a lot of fun to start a trip there and use it as a base or headquarters while exploring other areas of Andalucia.
>>
>>There is a lot to see and do in Malaga, Cadiz, Sevilla, Granada and the surrounding area. Train, bus and car are ways to get around from one area to another. If you do not speak Spanish try to learn a few phrases – it will help but is not 100% necessary.

>If I were touring Southern Spain, I would expect to visit the cities you mention. But one of the first websites I checked was the Spanish rail website at http://www.renfe.es/ or http://www.renfe.es/ingles/index.html for the English version. The other famous cities of southern Spain are not that close. Cordoba and Sevilla are over two hours away. There don't seem to be direct rail links to Cadiz or Granada. If I make overnight trips, I'm "wasting" the timeshare, which is paid for the whole two weeks. So the question is not whether Southern Spain is worth a visit. I know it is. The question is whether Malaga is a good base for making day trips, and is a pleasant place to be by itself.

>If I were touring by car, I would not want to have to drive all the way out of a large, congested city in order to get to the countryside. Malaga is a medium-sized city so I don't know how bad it would be. Of course, that would depend a lot on where the resort was.

>Tonight I will find and browse the Lonely Planet Guide to Spain. Their books tend to have these specific answers, for instance, are there good bus connections if there aren't good rail connections.

>rci.com has a resort directory. If anyone is interested, it is resort 1409. It is "situated just outside the coastal town of Fuengirola".

Bret;

I see your point! Why have a two week timeshare if you will not be there to enjoy it! To me Sevilla would be my first choice. There is a lot to see within a short distance. Trying to get to Granada, etc. takes too much time. Traveling more than a few miles would be a problem.

Malaga is rather central to Andalucia but that is not a real advangate in your case.
