>After all the threads on here about which Framework to use and their pros & cons, has anyone actually developed their own framework? If so, how complicated was your design, and what kind of a timeframe did you look at?

We were thinking about designing our own framework, for all the usual reasons. But, before we did that, we decided to see if we could avoid reinventing the wheel. So, we decided to evalute some of the current commerical offerings.
I have just completed reviewing two of the most popular frameworks, and have generate apps with both of them.. They are both excellent products. They have completely different design paradigms and one, Codebook 3.0 via MereMortals, seems to have the approach that would most suit out needs. The review showed me one outstanding fact, however.
To develop a framework as well conceived as CC3 or VMP 3.0 would require at least 6-8 months fulltime for at least one person (and I think I am conservative in this estimate) and the assistance of several folks to test and advise. The design would have to be well thrashed out in advance to avoid rebuilding the foundation code every time some little thing popped up. Also, the designers and coders would have to be extremely well versed in VFP code and OOP nuiances, and OOP design principles would have to be second nature.
Personally, IMHO, I've seen only a dozen or two programmers demonstrating the necessary skill levels that CB3.0 or VMP 3.0 require.
It is a lot easier to see how it's done after it has been done than to do it yourself from scratch, especially if your not in Drew Speedie's class.
