Mike;

I guess you can say that all things are relative and come in different flavors. One mans freedom is another mans hell. I remember the joke about this when I was in college. Some one would make a joke by starting the phrase, "When I become President..."! From there they would define what freedoms they thought would be ideal. Some of the suggestions were interesting but perhaps not practical for the entire nation.

Now if there were a nation that was truly free, how would one describe it? Chaos perhaps? Or utopia? Sometimes I have the impression that our country is “controlled chaos” and while not utopia it has an appeal for many for specific reasons.

In the 1960-70 period there were several disillusioned Americans who thought communism was the answer. Some went to Cuba but ended up returning. What may seem like a idyllic existence may in fact be unacceptable. Perhaps it is like getting married – before the marriage you have a romantic concept of your spouse and after the marriage reality may change all that! Lets face it – reality sucks! :)
