I take it you haven't used a throughly graphical version of Linux, like SuSE 7.3 Pro, or Mandrake 7.x or 8.x?
But, in one regard, you're right. You can't run WInXX tools and stay with Linux, unless MS ports them to Linux, which I don't ever see happening.

I just read an article in a major ezine that predicted that Linux will eventually win on the desktop. (Don't have the URL here at work.)
