Along with the other suggestions, you can also set the default Windows behaviour for background applications in the Control Panel..in NT it is under the System icon's Performance tab...I am not around a Win 95 machine, but it is there somewhere...basically, you are defining the foreground applications priority level (and therefore, defining the background apps timeslice too).
