The latest MSDN arrived today.
So straight away the .NET install began.

An hour later, sitting at literally about 95%,
an urgent beep pulled me from the VB.NET book i was reading for my new uni course.

Something along the lines of
"Low registry resources: Your registry is almost full, please up the max limit. See help"

So i reply
"WTF, registry limit, there aint no such thing is there?"

very scared, as the VS install was plowing on at full pace, I slowly started up help and entered my search
"increase the registry size limit"
Sure enough one existed,

I guessed I was racing a clock to get the limit increaded before .NET install reached the limit.
So off to control panel, system, Advanced, Performance Option, Options....
and there it was
Registry limit: 35 Meg,
Registry Used : 35 Meg

It was about this time I was alerted by the .NET installer that it could not register such and such DLL.
It was now at about 97%, I was well into the 4th disc, and approaching an hour of install time.
A somewhat unconfident smile crossed my face at the sight of a "Retry" button, but I didnt like my chances.

So I remove 35 and replace it with 100.
"The change you have made requires a reboot"

So I downed another sip of coffee, slowly counted the cost of the wasted time, and aborted my install.

30 mins later it is still rolling back the install, and I have another hour of re-install to look forward to.

Me thinks MS will be informed that the installer might like to check your registry level if it is going to fall over due to lack of space.
Or maybe just a warning that such a limit exists, so you might wanna check it before installing.

This has prooved a major waste of time, and has killed my excitement of using the new IDE.

Ohwell, back to my book.
"Professional VB.NET" by Wrox publishing.

Should be an exciting course, the lecturer hasnt even touched the final release yet, and there are only about 15 computers in the uni with it on.

Anyway, there is a point to this, has anyone else run across this, or am I the first, and as the first should i report it to MS, or do they already know because I am not the first.
*Ponders the meaning of that poorly contructed sentence*
