Craig,

I know my business affairs very well. At this point, you are starting to tick me off because you fail to accept the possibility that it is YOU that is mistaken.

When you do papers for MSDN, you CAN get paid. It is a nominal amount that does not, IMO, adaquately compensate the author for the time spent. I recall that I put about 100 hours into the paper. At $125 per, that would equate to 12.5K of time - which MS would never pay that amount. At most, it would have amounted to a grand or two.

In exchange, I would not be able to have my name on the paper. I surmized that it was better to forgo compensation. I figured this out early on because we (MS and I) never got to the point of negotiating a price. The paper came out in April of 1999, which is close to the end of MS's fiscal year (ends 6/30). Therefore, the budgets would most likely, have been tight.

As you can see, I know the details very well - since I was involved.

I am going into way more detail than I really need to. But, since you have called my credibility on the carpet, I have no choice. If, and this is a big if - if you and I actually talked about this issue, it would have been in the context of MVP to MVP and whether you should accept the money or do it for free in order to keep you name on the work. I don't recall talking to you about the issue. That is not to say we did not talk about it. Most likely, it would have been you to initiate it because I don't have nor would I initiate a conversation with you about dealings I have with MS.

It is simply best that I never come here again as it gets a bit tiring to be involved in these spats (not to mention a complete waste of time).
