I just wanted to announce – that after much debate (some of it heated) the company that I do most of my work for (a very large Real estate/development firm in South Florida) has decided to use FoxPro to re-write all of the internal applications. Currently, we have about 5 different systems doing 5 different things – everything from updating the MLS, to tracking agent commissions.
I think that you got a right deciosion. Integration of all system have lot of advantages and saves a lot of money. From support , training new staff, etc. We will also be building a front end to our backend MySQL server which is used to serve the corporate intranet, website and all of our agent’s websites.
The other contenders were VB (VB .NET), Python and Delphi. We almost choose Python. But because of FoxPro’s Command Box – and the fact that I easily connected to MySQL and wrote a report in about 10 minutes impressed everyone.
This main advantege of VFP save Boeing only in 1999 more than $60mln - example of Microsoft successful strategiesTo tell you the truth I wanted to use Python. But, I’m happy with FoxPro. Also, since the last time I wrote a Fox app was in 1994 – expect a lot of questions.
You have a big gap in development history. May be you will move directly from FP2.6 to VFP7.0/SQLServer. If you need some help we offer outsourcing services. May be using us you will faster and with less problems will convert all systems.Stephen Cox
