If you are backing up the files with the application and therefore the files closed then the solution put forward by Hilmar Zonneveld are correct.
If you are backing up OPEN FILES (I normally do this on most of my networks every hour) then you need to think differently. SET EXCLUSIVE OFF then use the FILE copy to, to copy the dbf and associated fpt files to a backup directory. This won't copy the indexes. I therefore have all the index file structures in the destination folder + a routine to rebuild all the indexes on the backed up files if I need to restore them.
