>Open the file in Paint (under Programs > Accessories). Then magnify the view (View > Zoom > Large size) and click in the toolbox on the SELECT icon (rectangular).
>Select use this tool to select the desired image (drag with the left mouse button) and copy the selection (Ctrl+C). Create a new file (Ctrl+N) and paste the selection from the clipboard (Ctrl+V). Now you can change the backcolor to white and save this image as BMP file with a new name.

>If you need to use this image for a button, you need to resize the image with another imaging program (I use photoshop where I can change the resolution). You can paste it into a Word document for example and scale the image, and make a screenshot from the smaller image.
>Another tip: Open office programs (like Outlook for example) and make a screenshot. Paste it in Paint and you can copy a large number of good images for treeviews and buttons, just the same way as described.
