>>>>>Can I get some opinions on a few of the frameworks that are on the market? I believe the two most popular are Visual Express and Visual ProMatrix. I have recently seen a few others as well. I am trying to select a strategic product to use in the development of multi-user software that will be marketed to private business and public organizations. I am looking for a much shorter development time, good performance from the end application, security, client/server support, and hopefully the framework will be easy to use, well documented, and have good technical support. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

>>>Steve,
>>>I have been using ProMatrix for the last one year and it has more than I could ever ask for. Its Active Data Dictionary is simply fantastic. One project I carried out needed five developers and would have lasted six months. I completed it with two developers in one month and have given my clients more features than they asked for. The Error reporting routine, Security, Audit trial, Field level help etc are tremendous. Try it out for 30 days. If you dont like it, return it.

>>Out of curiosoty, how does VPM handle errors? Does it still use codebook's object oriented menu system? Did they ever fix the menu builder that was so buggy in codebook? Finally, what security features have been added?

>VPM is not based on Codebook. It uses GenmenuX. Has its own error handling routine which is outstanding. Captures mem vars at the time of errors, programs running, etc and saves them to DBF. Has form for displaying and navigating errors.
>Excellent security features. Menu level security for Groups and users. Has field level security. Security for the controls on the toolbar. If a user locked out, that particular menu, field or toolbar button is not visible.

Abdul,
I have heard some good and some bad things about most of the frameworks out for VFP ( I consider VFE and VPM in the same class as other frameworks).. Mainly, the person who is asking has to do some reserach of his own to determine which one will work for him..

I for one, like the way VFE works, and would recommend it to anyone who is need of a tool for building VFP apps (Client server included).. VFE's addoption of the Codebook framework is a great start, plus all the time and effort the Feltmans and company put into this product (plus all the beta testers!!) have made this a helluva product!!

Try them all, and make up your own mind...

Thanx!
