Personally, I worked since my youth with computer programming (mainly xBASE), and then started a correspondence study (almost finished by now), for a "Bachellor of Science in Engineering Technology, with Major Emphasis in Computers". That is, emphasis is on computer hardware. I guess that this, and the fact that I did a lot of reading on scientific topics, gives me an engineering background, too. However, I never worked with Fortran.
