Exactly. I understand that the PRE tag means "pre-formatted", and does the following, all of which is important for showing computer code correctly:
Use a fixed-width font (like Courier, or Courier New).
Preserve spaces and tabs. Without PRE, double spaces would be merged into a single space. Spaces or tabs at the beginning of the line are not respected if you don't use PRE.
Avoid line wrap.
