Yes, the shared drive is mapped to a drive letter. The application which is failing is on that mapped drive and is executed from that drive. So the workstation is able to access the mapped drive and subdirectory which contains the application.

No, the application does not work if we first access the shared drive from Windows Explorer. We are able to access the shared drive and 'data' sub-directory and even use notepad to open and create files in that directory. The application still fails.
